A Dragon’s first Byte of Robotics
Dragon Bytes teams introduce elementary age, K-3rd grade, students to STEM in a fun and challenging environment. Students meet for twelve weeks. During these 12 weeks, students will participate in Core Values activities, LEGO build and design and a variety of coding activities . Dragon Bytes teams are grouped in similar age groups and kept small so that coaches and mentors can offer focused guidance and support. Dragon Bytes season concludes with a fun showcase where students get to demonstrate all they have learned.
Dragon Bytes Fall session will begin Tuesday, August 4, 2026 and run through November 3, 2026. Meetings are from 4:00-5:15pm Tuesday afternoons.
Introducing Mega Bytes
Our new Spring Mega Bytes program is a bridge between Dragon Bytes and FLL Challenge. Third graders, who have completed Dragon Bytes, and fourth graders are assigned to teams where they will have a mini FLL Challenge season, focusing just on robot. Students are tasked with building their unique robot, adding attachments and coding it to run missions on a past FLL Challenge Mission Model set. These Mega Bytes teams will meet for 12 weeks and culminate in a fun showcase, where they will present their robot designs and have a friendly robot competition!
Mega Bytes Spring Session will begin on Jan. 5, 2027 and run through March 30, 2027. Meetings will be on Tuesdays from 4:00-5:15pm. Applications will open in the fall of 2026.

Core Values
Dragon Bytes and Mega Bytes teams are about more than coding and STEM. Our Bytes students learn all about team work through diving into the core values established by First Inspires.
- Discovery: Exploring new skills and ideas.
- Innovation: Using creativity and persistence to solve problems.
- Impact: Applying what we learn to improve our world.
- Inclusion: Respecting each other and embracing differences.
- Teamwork: Being stronger when working together.
- Fun: Enjoying and celebrating what we do

Design and Build
Building on children’s natural curiosity and out of the box thinking, Dragon Bytes students dive into what makes a good design. Students learn to work together to consider and refine creative solutions. Working as a team, they will build a unique LEGO creation that fits the season theme.
Mega Bytes students research different design ideas for a Spike Prime robot and work together to decide on a viable design. They will then build their chosen robot and design and build attachments to solve LEGO missions.

Programming
Even our early elementary students amaze us with their ability to understand and implement basic programming concepts. Dragon Bytes will be introduced to a wide-variety of robotics and STEM concepts, including LEGO Spike Essential, Sphero, Scratch coding, and more!
Mega Bytes will use Spike Prime coding software to code their robot to solve as many missions as possible in a 2.5 minute timed run!

More Than Robots
Dragon Bytes is about so much more than building a robot. It is about growing curious and creative kids who are ready to change the world.
