Application

Overview

Charleston Dragon Robotics has grown quickly over the years adding on average more than one team a year to our roster. Students from all educational backgrounds are welcome to apply. Registration first opens to our current students and families then remaining open spaces are available to new student applications. New applicants are required to attend a meet and greet with coaches and mentors. This allows our coaching and mentor staff to put together the best fit for teams. Students who apply do not need to have any experience in robotics or STEM. Applicants are not guaranteed a spot on a team. Coaches and mentors have the final say as to who is admitted to their team.

Dragon Bytes

The most amazing little dragons are our Bytes students. Made up of students in K-4, Dragon Bytes meet for twelve weeks giving students a fun and education-packed introduction to robotics and STEM. Bytes students spend four weeks having fun working on core values and teamwork, four weeks learning about design and build and four weeks on coding. Their season finale is a showcase of everything they have learned for their family and friends.

FIRST Lego League

FLL teams are made up of students in 5th thru 8th grade. In addition to building and block coding a Lego robot, students learn core values, research and present a solution to a real-world problem. Teams learn how to professionally present themselves and their ideas before a panel of judges as well as industry experts. CDR currently runs five teams at the FLL level. Teams are limited in the number of students to allow each student to participate and learn to their fullest capacity.

FIRST Tech Challenge

CDR has two FTC teams at the high school level. In FTC, students expand on their knowledge of basic coding learning Java coding as well as CAD design. Piece building their robot, students have the opportunity to design, manufacture and 3d print many of the components. Utilizing an engineering portfolio students learn real work engineering, design and documentation.
